Rest in peace, black, velvet Tom Robinson,
Your innocence will never be known,
If your jury could have only seen within,
You would not have had to die alone.
Separated from all your family and friends,
All alone and scared in your cell,
Mr. Finch was trying to defend
But, you still feeling your were stuck in hell.
Knowing that the verdict could not agree,
    You had lost all hope,
    And decided to flee,
Shot down at the end of your rope.
    If only you could win
    Innocence your only sin.
    Innocence your only sin
    your intentions were pure
although you died, your story lives again
    but you left unsure
    you tried to run away
    they shot you seventeen times
    why didn't you stay
    discrimination, they were blind
now your loved ones are frozen with grief
a chance that was a lost cause
your life stolen, injustice, the thief
the jury held your life in their judgmental claws
they looked on the outside but they couldn't see within
protection is for white folks, and you've got darker skin.
Protection is for white folks, and you’ve got a darker skin
Mocking bird who lost your life
    who never saw it coming
    faced a bitter strife
now you can see him running
    he tried so hard
    to get so far
he couldn’t keep up his guard
got hit with a silver bar
    and fell to the ground
    an innocent man
the cries could be heard from the burial mound
    he didn’t have many fans
there’s so much more to tell
remember tom who loved so well

    Never balanced were the scales
You were guilty from the start
From the beginning, your destiny was clear
You will always be in our hearts
    Innocence was your only offense
The jury had no sense of innocence
The racist fury of the jury ruined your life
Mayella’s lust for you, a black man, caused shame and spread lies
To seal the blame and deal with her shame, she accused you of rape
Mr. Ewell’s abuse was turned loose by Atticus
Tom, you are just a mockingbird doing nothing but helping,
but you were blamed and framed
Your frustration led to your fall
    Seventeen bullet holes that day
Seventeen bullet holes that dayYou didn’t mean to cause any harm
Yet you decided to escape that way
They say you would have made it if it wasn’t for your arm
They named you guilty during that long evening
Just because of your darker tone
Yet the verdict had a discriminatory meaning
Atticus gave it his all like treating Toms’ life as his own
Your family and friends showed their support
When I heard the news, it made me shutter
So we went and told your wife the news that we had to report
Your trial made some change and people began to mutter
Someone close said don’t shot at mocking birds, because they don’t cause alarm
“Only shoot at birds that do us harm,” are the words I hear today.
    {louis.jpg}
“Only shoot at birds that do us harm,” Are the words I hear today It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird
Just listen to the music they play
Tom Robinson was like a mockingbird
    Very innocent and kind
I just can’t understand if it is a sin to kill what doesn’t harm us
What has happened to him seems so wrong in my mind
Then why must his blood stain the land
    Why doesn’t anyone care?
    Why doesn’t anyone cry?
How can they see it as ok?
    He never did anyone harm
Now it is far too late
And his body lies on the Prison Farm
    {brittany.jpg}
Not by the likes of Tom who couldn’t fly, so by the prison far is laid An unfit grave for such a brave soul,
But he is gone with all debts paid,
The unfair trial was a white man’s goal,
To erase the line that separates whites and blacks
And create a new world for our children
We would make sure that the separation never comes back
If it did it would only be a sin
Let’s do it in memory of Tom, we owe him that much
For his and family and friends that will never forget
The smell the color of that black velvet touch,
We will break the separation for good, young children should not fret
So remember the beloved father and son,
Rest in peace, black, velvet Tom Robinson.

Twenty-five years of age you were, three children and a wife,

“Only shoot at birds that do us harm,” are the words I hear today.
Shot down by discrimination and words of hate
those who are innocent can’t make it through the day,
Yet the blame falls on one who caused no harm.
Word against word not enough evidence to prove you wrong.
Although unfair, in the end you were to blame.
Not a word could be said to change their mind
Leaving you no choice a lie you made an end to your life.
Unable to defend yourself against such strong hate,
You gave your life knowing you did no wrong.
A lie left you trapped behind fences and bars
Who could imagine the strength needed to go on?
The birds who could fly would find the strength to move on
Not the likes of Tom who couldn’t fly, so by the Prison Farm is laid.

Because poor and lonely white girl dares to want to one of his race
Miserable and sad look at the guilt on her face
You went by her side to help her everyday
And how your not there so who going to pay
Fair man who gave off a sweet and kind innocence
Pulling a young girl from loneliness and just for this
You got the blame so how you have to pay the price
Next time you help someone in need maybe think twice

If only you had waited, but then justice never came,
Would the outcome of your life ever be the same,

The day his life went to waste
    Seventeen bullet holes that day
    Never balanced were the sclaes,
Flying away as the mochingbird wails.
Put in a cage locked away,
Hoping to be set free for another day.
I did not do what you say I've done,
I showed you the facts and still I haven't won.
So thrown in a cell beaten and scorn,
Stay here longer, I'll be set for a morne.
Break these chains that keep me here,
Truth be told is not a truth but a steer.
Bending the cage's rail to turn skew,
Just enough for a body to fit through.
Escaping the bird tries to fly away,
    Seventeen bullet holes that day.

    Seventeen bullet holes that day,
So quick, they took your life away.
